Promotional fares for students

A number of schools allow their students to order their photo OPUS card online via their portal.

• Orders can be paid by Visa or Mastercard credit card.
• The photo used for the student’s OPUS card is the same as that on their student card.
• TThe ordered OPUS card is mailed to the student’s home address (Quebec mailing address required) within seven business days, or, if preferred, can be picked up at an authorized point of service.
  • Upon receipt, the OPUS photo card will not contain any fares: the student is responsible for purchasing the appropriate fares for their upcoming trips.

The student photo OPUS card can be obtained at metropolitan ticket office counters, exo sales and service outlets or at the STM photo studio.

Good to know: Some service outlets require an appointment.

What to bring:

• The completed Reduced-fare/student photo OPUS card application form.
• For students aged 16 and over: the official stamp and signature of your educational institution are required.*
• A valid photo ID showing your date of birth in French or English: health insurance card, driver’s licence, passport, asylum seeker document or permanent resident card.**

*Alternative to the institution’s official stamp and signature:
Some schools allow students to download a digital proof of full-time attendance from their student portal as a substitute for the official seal and signature on the form. The proof of attendance must be downloaded on-site by the student, on their cellphone or tablet (make sure you have an internet connection) in front of the employee at the service outlet. No photocopy, printout or email copy of your proof of attendance will be accepted. Previously downloaded versions will not be accepted.

**The student card issued by the educational institution is not an accepted form of identification.

The student photo OPUS card has a limited validity period. The expiry date is printed on the back of the card.

After that date, you will no longer be able to purchase reduced fares with it.

The student photo OPUS card can be renewed as of August 1 to avoid fall lineups.

The information shown on student cards varies from one institution to another. The student card alone does not provide all the personal details needed to properly identify you.

No, a class schedule is not accepted as valid proof of school attendance.

Online order:
If you order your new photo OPUS card for students online, your fares will not be automatically transferred to the new card.

To recover them, you must visit a metropolitan ticket office or a service outlet of your local transit agency to have the fares transferred to your new card.

Good to know:
To make the transfer easier, it’s important to move any valid fares to your new photo OPUS card before loading new fares onto it.

In-person issuance of the new photo OPUS card:
Yes, the balance of your remaining fares will be automatically transferred to your new student photo OPUS card.
