Children aged 6 to 11 travel free on public transit services when accompanied by a person aged 14 or older who holds a valid and validated fare and who is responsible for their supervision.

The accompanying person must have a valid and validated fare and may not accompany more than five children aged 6 to 11.

Getting a student photo OPUS card

The student photo OPUS card can be obtained at any time. If you need to renew yours, do so starting August 1st to avoid fall lineups.

A number of schools allow their students to order their photo OPUS card online via their portal.

  • Orders can be paid by Visa or Mastercard credit card.
  • The photo used for the student’s OPUS card is the same as that on their student card.
  • The ordered OPUS card is mailed to the student’s home address (Quebec mailing address required) within seven business days.
    • Upon receipt, the OPUS photo card will not contain any fares: the student is responsible for purchasing the appropriate fares for their upcoming trips.

The student photo OPUS card can be obtained at metropolitan ticket office counters, exo sales and service outlets or at the STM photo studio.

  • The completed Reduced-fare/student photo OPUS card application form.
  • For students aged 16 and over: the official stamp and signature of your educational institution are required.*
  • A valid photo ID showing your date of birth in French or English: health insurance card, driver’s licence, passport, asylum seeker document or permanent resident card.**

*Alternative to the institution’s official stamp and signature:
Some schools allow students to download a digital proof of full-time attendance from their student portal as a substitute for the official seal and signature on the form. The proof of attendance must be downloaded on-site by the student, on their cellphone or tablet (make sure you have an internet connection) in front of the employee at the service outlet. No photocopy, printout or email copy of your proof of attendance will be accepted. Previously downloaded versions will not be accepted.
